Surprisingly Harmless, Natural ways to Repel Mosquitoes…
May 25th, 2006
I think I mentioned once that if you have a garden pond with fish in it, your fish will eat mosquito larva, which will cut down on the mosquitoes as a whole, but I’m sure some of them will still get away. Therefore, since summer’s coming on, I thought I would give you a few tips that I found to repel those nasty creatures! Some of these may surprise you, and I haven’t tried all of them, but it’s worth a look!
For other pest control, Click Here. For Mosquitos here are a few goodies.
Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets…just wipe on & go…Great for babies!
There is a fisherman who takes one vitamin B-1 tablet a day April through October. He swears by it and hasn’t had a mosquito bite in 33 years. Everyone he has talked into trying it says it works. Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine Hydrochloride 100 mg.)
Don’t eat Bananas! Your body does something to the banana oil as it processes. Stop eating bananas for the summer and the mosquitoes will be much less interested.
One of the best insect repellents someone found (who is in the woods every day), is Vicks’ Vapor rub.
Plant marigolds around the yard, the flowers give off a smell that bugs do not like (I can believe that!) Plant some in that garden also to help ward off bugs without using insecticides.
“Tough guy” Marines who spend a great deal of time “camping out” say that the very best mosquito repellant you can use is Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil mixed about half and half with alcohol. I’ve never heard about the alcohol part before, I tend to want to drink my alcohol!
Last but not least - one of the best natural insect repellants seems to be made from the clear real vanilla. This is the pure Vanilla that is sold in Mexico. It works great for mosquitoes and ticks. I guess I better go to Mexico and get me some!
If fish, vitamins, and skin care don’t work -get a frog – LOL!
